Air Canada links to Skykennel Carriers – you can use their requirements as a guide for international and domestic travel.  But you should check the airline that you are flying  what their policies and requirements are re carriersYou shouldn’t leave this up to a travel agent.  If there is a mistake your pet won’t be allowed on the plane.

The “pets in the cabin” service is no longer available on Air Canada. Check with the airline your travelling with if their  “pets in cabin” is available.

Only certified, professionally-trained service animals assisting customers with disabilities will continue to be carried, free of charge, in the passenger cabin at the customer’s feet—provided they have a registered training certificate and have been pre-registered through the Medical Assistance Desk at Air Canada Reservations.

Airline Pet Container Requirements -The animals must be in a container that meets the minimum requirements set forth by IATA. It is considered best to have only one animal per container but the IATA rules state that two animals can share the same container if the animals are under 14kg (30lbs).
LARGE PETS – Please note that if the combined weight of the pet and its kennel is over 70 lbs / 32 Kg, the pet can only be accepted for travel by Air Canada Cargo.
Contact Air Canada Reservations for details as some exceptions may apply.

Whether your pet is a Chihuahua or a Great Dane, there’s a pet carrier to match. The majority of carriers are made of hard plastic with holes for ventilation. No part of the animal is allowed to protrude from the carrier. As a result, wire carriers are not permittedSoft-sided carriers are permitted for animals in the cabin only.  All carriers must be secure and leak proof. International regulations state that the carrier must be big enough to allow the animal to stand, turn around and lie down comfortably. If the pet carrier does not allow the animal to do this, Air Canada must refuse transport.

* The container must be large enough for the animal(s) to turn around, stand and sit up.
* The container must have a secure all around locking system with the pins extending beyond the horizontal extrusions above and below the door.
* A water container must be present and must be accessible from outside the container.
* The container must have ventilation on all four sides.
* The container must be identified with the pets name and owners contact information.
* If traveling Internationally then you should attach an extra copy of the pets health certificate to the container
